Welcome to my exciting new blog redesign!

That sounds much fancier than it actually is, but I am very pleased with the new theme. What’s happened (in case you hadn’t noticed) is that I took it from WordPress.com over to WordPress.org. This means that I have more freedom to do what I want with my site now, like install Google Analytics and get plugins without having to pay for it. WordPress.com is great for people who don’t really have time to get into the nitty gritty of websites or for those that would rather pay and not have to think about it too much. I was on .com as an accident basically – I had gotten too excited by the idea of actually starting a blog that I didn’t realise that there were two types of WordPress, and I picked the wrong one! It only took me a year and a half to get round to changing it. I thought it was going to be a much bigger hassle than it actually was. Luckily I stumbled across this blog post, which made it really easy.

I took the opportunity to revamp the way it looks too, so I got a new theme, which I think looks pretty snazzy, don’t you think? The feedback that I’ve got so far is that it looks much more professional now – and I’m hoping that I can produce some great content to match!

It’s not quite back up to ramming speed, though. The export from my old site did not import all the gallery photos, so WordPress doesn’t know what they are any more, and all the featured images are gone too. I’m planning on working through all my posts and getting them back, but it’s kinda boring and it takes time, so it’ll be done slowly! i.e. don’t hold your breath.

I want a different blog header too – I have an idea in mind, I just need to bug Mark into making it basically…

So things are still gonna change around here, but I’m 90% happy with it.

This is also a little “woo I’m back on it” kind of post. I’ve not been focused on the blog as much (bar the way it looks) recently, because of various things that are out of my control but I have had to deal with. I’ve realised that this “little corner of the internet” as so many people call it, is quite important to me and I really want to make a proper go at it. So there you go. I’m going to try to be better!
