Welcome to my first post of 2018! Okay so I’m a little behind already (two weeks in already!) but I’m gonna talk about the year ahead and what I hope to do with my blog.

Am I working hard enough on my blog?

I’ve been turning this over in my mind over the whole time I’ve been running my blog.

If I worked harder and devoted more time to my blog, could it go places faster? Yes. I know that if I was more consistent and posted more often and promoted my blog at least once in a while that I might have more readers/followers/sugar daddies.

Do I want to work with crazy cool brands and would I want it to be my full time job? Duh, that’s the dream isn’t it? But it ain’t gonna happen while I spend my evenings eating mash and watching old Drag Race episodes.

Do I feel like if I was more motivated I could produce more content? Definitely. I don’t know whether I just haven’t quite found my niche or I’m just freaking lazy.

What I do know, is that as it stands, I don’t have the motivation or energy to do four blog posts a week (which is what I think it would take to drive this blog forward).

But I’m okay with it. For now, at least. I’m going to stop comparing myself to everyone else, and enjoy my blog for what it is – whatever I want it to be.

Changing it up

I’m going to try and reduce the amount of pressure I put on myself to produce outfit posts in particular. They’re really fun to do (most of the time anyway) when I do actually do them, but I make myself feel bad when I see everyone else doing more than me and I feel like I should be doing the same.

I would love to be doing one a week or more but the amount of time it would take up it just wouldn’t be worth it. I’m trying to be more focused and achieve the things I want to but I don’t think making myself feel bad is the way to go.

Instead, I’m going to write more about the things that are important to me. I think this will change my blog completely to be honest but I really want my blog to have a purpose. I want it to for living life alternatively. Not just about fashion, but feminism and veganism and design and more. And I would love to help smash the patriarchy along the way.

Honestly, I’m terrified but I’ve got to give it a go. It might be terrible and it’ll probably be a massive learning curve, so sorry ’bout that.

That witch life

As part of talking about living life outside of mainstream society’s norms, I’m going to be reading and learning (and hopefully writing) about witches and witchcraft.

I don’t believe in witchcraft and I’m not particularly spiritual. But I like the idea that the authors talk about in Basic Witches, that you can be a witch purely by not conforming to external expectations and living life the way you want to. Feeling powerful by loving your own skin.

I’ll be channelling witchy aesthetics in my fashion choices and my interiors, and I’ll be writing about what I’m learning about historical (and present day!) witches to fully embrace that witch life.

This outfit

And so, we segway into the witchy perfection that is THIS OUTFIT. Let’s start from the bottom, with the Doc Martens. A Christmas present from Mark, they’re classic dms in style but the double stack sole gives them an extra chunky feel. Pretty perfect if you ask me. I’ve been living in them ever since I got them. They’re still not fully broken in and my feet still kinda hurt but they’re beautiful so it doesn’t matter.

The jumper isn’t something I’d normally wear – cold shoulders seem like one of those silly trends – but I thought I’d give it a go and it is a really nice style on. I decided to give it a go when Tobi got in touch about a collab (first one gals, it’s gonna be big). I thought “it’s all about the way you style it anyway” and after I’d layered it up with a couple of necklaces and a wide brim hat it looks pretty gothy. Whaddya reckon?
