Today we’re kicking off the Goth Life interview revival with gorgeous alternative model, Lauren Horror. Talking all things style, I am absolutely delighted that we’ve got her on the blog!

Describe your style in three words

Spooky, Sexy and Strange

Do you think that “Goth” is elitist?

Goth can definitely be elitist and I understand why. There’s many people who have been part of the subculture for years and have seen what happens when popular culture gets hold of a style such as ‘goth’. It’s scary to think that the people who made you feel so outcast pick up the latest ‘trends’ and try to copy something that comes so naturally to you.

However, it can be a great way for us to pick up items of clothing for cheap from larger stores and for young people to maybe find a subculture that they can relate to and are inspired be. I think we should just be welcoming to people who want to try the style out and educate them on the history and music tastes of our subculture.

What’s your favourite outfit?

My favourite outfit changes all the time! I’m constantly getting ideas for outfits and spend ages hunting down the right pieces for them. Then I’m always trying new combinations of pieces that I already own. I can’t pin point a particular outfit as it depends on my mood and style influence that day.

Brands that you think are killing it rn?

I am currently in love with La Femme En Noir, Vixen by Micheline Pitt, Widow and Deandri.

Did you/do you find getting work difficult because of the way you look?

I am very fortunate to work for Lush, a company who take pride in the individuality of their staff. While working there I’ve gotten so many compliments from my team and customers.

I also get the comment ‘I thought you were going to be scary because of how you look but you’re actually really nice’, I enjoy changing people’s opinions on alternative people!

I’ve got the mind set that if I had to work with people who didn’t like my appearance than those are people who I don’t want to be around. If you can only see what’s skin deep then you don’t deserve my dedication and talent.

Who are your style icons?

My style icons are Elvira, Violet Chachki, Dita Von Teese and Micheline Pitt. Classy, sexy and eccentric.

Tell us about your tattoos and piercings?

My tattoos are all spooky yet feminine, and colourful yet dark. My favourite artist is the talented Georgina Liliane, she did my hand, shoulder and stomach piece which are some of my favourite tattoos!

I see myself as a walking piece of art, my tattoos show the outside world a little bit about what’s going around in my head.

As for piercings I have quite a collection, my favourites are my bridge, stretched septum and stretched ears!

With every piercing and tattoo I get I feel like I am becoming more like my authentic self.

Thank you so much, Lauren! Follow her on Instagram here, and on Facebook here.

I’ve got a few great people lined up for the next few instalments of Goth Life that I am super excited about! Stay tuned…
