Iโm a bit of an eclectic soul when it comes to music but I do listen to the same thing over and over and over again…
My taste hasnโt evolved much beyond what I was listening to at 15 tbh – angsty Placebo, horny Nine Inch Nails and edgy-but-not-that-edgy-really Queens of the Stone Age.
However, when I do discover something new that I like, I cling on to it like a barnacle on to a ship, or a turtle, or whatever it is barnacles hang out on. #piratereferences
So, with lockdown in full force for another three weeks (letโs face it, it probably not going away any time soon) I thought I would share with you my current music obsessions that are helping me through.
Moana – Soundtrack
I know, I know! Itโs not very goth of me to be obsessing over a Disney soundtrack… or is it… #disneygoth
Iโm not one for sticking labels on things or gatekeeping, so Iโm not hung up on the fact that this is making me happy but itโs not even close to being โgothโ. Who cares?
If youโre into a Disney musical and you havenโt watched it yet then you need to!
Perfect for cooking up potions to (or just dinner) or if youโre in need of a pick-me-up.
Favourites: Youโre Welcome
Chelsea Wolfe – Birth of Violence

Iโm just in love with this sound tbh. Itโs beautiful but dark and gives me true American Gothic/Grotesque vibes. A more acoustic, folky sound compared to Hiss Spun which had more doom metal influences.
Highly recommend for when youโre laying hexes on your neighbour for playing music to the wee hours on a week night (just coz youโve been furloughed Michael doesnโt mean the whole street has!) or youโre raising storms to help keep people inside.
Favourites: Mother Road, Deranged for Rock n Roll, The Storm
Brock Berrigan – just everything
And I mean everything. Itโs like trip hop, chill hop, lo-fi hip hop? I think? *shrugs* Whatever it is, I like it.
His music is full of old-school samples from films, TV shows and music. I donโt recognise any of them. The obsession started a few years ago, via Mark.
Heโd heard it on a Unboxing Therapy YouTube video and hunted it down and discovered The Narrows, one of Brockโs albums. Then we basically didnโt stop listening to it for probably a month? I listened to it at work, and so did he.
Ideal for crafting and creating to.
Favourites: All of The Narrows
Nina Simone – Sinnerman
Itโs just an absolute classic, donโt you think? I first heard this on the soundtrack of The Thomas Crown Affair (the one with Pierce Brosnan in – has anyone else seen it??) when I was probably around 16 and itโs popped back up recently into my regular routine.
Recommend listening to this while youโre cleaning – itโs a long song but it has pace, great for scrubbing!!
Lana del Rey – Norman fucking Rockwell
I think people have an issue with LDR because they think sheโs fake or a sap but I really like her music.
Itโs kind of different to the empowered women who donโt need a man – itโs more, โmen have been shitty to me but I still love themโ.
Donโt get me wrong, I fully appreciate the empowered side too, but havenโt we all been in love with someone whoโs been shitty to us but we couldnโt help ourselves?
I love this album, but Norman Fucking Rockwell the song really stands out to me.
Definitely great for having a bath or shower to!
Favourites: Norman Fucking Rockwell, Venice Bitch
