Iโ€™m a bit of an eclectic soul when it comes to music but I do listen to the same thing over and over and over again…

My taste hasnโ€™t evolved much beyond what I was listening to at 15 tbh – angsty Placebo, horny Nine Inch Nails and edgy-but-not-that-edgy-really Queens of the Stone Age.

However, when I do discover something new that I like, I cling on to it like a barnacle on to a ship, or a turtle, or whatever it is barnacles hang out on. #piratereferences

So, with lockdown in full force for another three weeks (letโ€™s face it, it probably not going away any time soon) I thought I would share with you my current music obsessions that are helping me through.

Moana – Soundtrack

I know, I know! Itโ€™s not very goth of me to be obsessing over a Disney soundtrack… or is it… #disneygoth

Iโ€™m not one for sticking labels on things or gatekeeping, so Iโ€™m not hung up on the fact that this is making me happy but itโ€™s not even close to being โ€œgothโ€. Who cares?

If youโ€™re into a Disney musical and you havenโ€™t watched it yet then you need to!

Perfect for cooking up potions to (or just dinner) or if youโ€™re in need of a pick-me-up.

Favourites: Youโ€™re Welcome

Chelsea Wolfe – Birth of Violence

Iโ€™m just in love with this sound tbh. Itโ€™s beautiful but dark and gives me true American Gothic/Grotesque vibes. A more acoustic, folky sound compared to Hiss Spun which had more doom metal influences.

Highly recommend for when youโ€™re laying hexes on your neighbour for playing music to the wee hours on a week night (just coz youโ€™ve been furloughed Michael doesnโ€™t mean the whole street has!) or youโ€™re raising storms to help keep people inside.

Favourites: Mother Road, Deranged for Rock n Roll, The Storm

Brock Berrigan – just everything

And I mean everything. Itโ€™s like trip hop, chill hop, lo-fi hip hop? I think? *shrugs* Whatever it is, I like it.

His music is full of old-school samples from films, TV shows and music. I donโ€™t recognise any of them. The obsession started a few years ago, via Mark.

Heโ€™d heard it on a Unboxing Therapy YouTube video and hunted it down and discovered The Narrows, one of Brockโ€™s albums. Then we basically didnโ€™t stop listening to it for probably a month? I listened to it at work, and so did he.

Ideal for crafting and creating to.

Favourites: All of The Narrows

Nina Simone – Sinnerman

Itโ€™s just an absolute classic, donโ€™t you think? I first heard this on the soundtrack of The Thomas Crown Affair (the one with Pierce Brosnan in – has anyone else seen it??) when I was probably around 16 and itโ€™s popped back up recently into my regular routine.

Recommend listening to this while youโ€™re cleaning – itโ€™s a long song but it has pace, great for scrubbing!!

Lana del Rey – Norman fucking Rockwell

I think people have an issue with LDR because they think sheโ€™s fake or a sap but I really like her music.

Itโ€™s kind of different to the empowered women who donโ€™t need a man – itโ€™s more, โ€œmen have been shitty to me but I still love themโ€.

Donโ€™t get me wrong, I fully appreciate the empowered side too, but havenโ€™t we all been in love with someone whoโ€™s been shitty to us but we couldnโ€™t help ourselves?

I love this album, but Norman Fucking Rockwell the song really stands out to me.

Definitely great for having a bath or shower to!

Favourites: Norman Fucking Rockwell, Venice Bitch

What have you been listening to?
